Finance and Banking

Tribal nations across the nation have begun to realize the importance of financial literacy and banking services. Both tools are used to alleviate poverty and promote economic development of tribes and individual tribal members alike. Recent studies conclude that only 14% of Native communities have access to a financial institution. The lack of access to financial institutions creates a vicious cycle of financial instability and attracts predatory lenders, leaving tribal nations without the capital and tools to build their communities. NCAI in coordination with other organizations is involved in improving access to financial services and increasing financial literacy in Indian Country.
