Welfare Reform Update - April 20, 1999

 

BIA Reschedules Tribal Consultation Over GA Revisions - On Friday, April 16, 1999, Assistant Secretary Kevin Gover announced two consultation sessions with tribes over revisions to 25 CFR Part 20, Financial Assistance and Social Services Program, more commonly referred to as General Assistance (GA).

The first consultation session is scheduled for Monday, May 10, 1999 in Albuquerque, NM, for tribes served under the BIA Albuquerque, Anadarko, Muskogee, Navajo and Phoenix Area Offices. The announced time and location are as follows:

8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Double Tree Hotel

If the Double Tree is full, the BIA has announced that additional rooms are available at the Wyndham Albuquerque Hotel, 2910 Yale Blvd., SE, Albuquerque, NM, 87106, Ph: (505) 843-7000. The BIA urges tribes to make their hotel reservations for the Albuquerque session by Monday, April 26, 1999.

The second consultation session is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25-26, 1999 in St. Paul, MN, for tribes served under the BIA Aberdeen, Billings, Eastern, Juneau, Minneapolis, Portland and Sacramento Area Offices. The announced time and location are as follows:

12:30 p.m, May 25th - 10:00 a.m., May 26th

No secondary hotel accommodations for the St. Paul session were announced, however, the BIA does urge tribes to make their hotel reservations by Friday, May 14, 1999.
