Meet an NCAI Fellow: Ashley Hamilton (Ho-Chunk/Kickapoo) is a 2020 graduate of Harvard University. Upon completing her undergraduate degree in Sociology with honors and earning a secondary degree in Economics, she joined the National Congress of American Indians as a Wilma Mankiller Fellow. The Wilma Mankiller Fellowship program provides an exceptional opportunity for emerging Native professionals to work side by side with national leaders in tribal policy.

“The NCAI Wilma Mankiller Fellowship has been the opportunity of a lifetime. At NCAI, I have developed as a young professional, specifically as a young Native professional interested in working for Indian Country. I have learned how to work within a professional environment, while also working on topics that are not only important to me, but also to Indian Country at-large. Specifically, within the Tribal Governance and Special Projects Department, I have worked on food sovereignty, juvenile justice, economic development, and ending ‘Indian’ school mascots. This work is so rewarding. Every day I see the very real impacts of my work. I cannot recommend this fellowship enough to any young professional interested in working for Indian Country.”
