The Supreme Court has completed hearing three days of oral arguments in review of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). When the ACA was passed two years ago, the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (IHCIA) was permanently reauthorized - an achievement for Indian Country that was more than 30 years in the making.
On the third day of the oral arguments, the Supreme Court addressed the "severability" of the law - which reviewed the question; if the individual mandate of the ACA is struck down, will the other pieces of the law remain? The IHCIA will be part of this consideration.
