NCAI Reaffirms Its Commitment to Defending Tribal Sovereignty and Honoring Treaty and Trust Commitments
November 8, 2024
Tribal sovereignty will endure. This National Native Heritage Month, as the United States navigates a pivotal transition, the National Congress of American Indians stands resolute in defending tribal sovereignty, honoring our treaty and trust obligations, and safeguarding the well-being of Native communities. Together with federal and state partners, we are determined to protect the hard-won advances of Indian Country through times of uncertainty and change.
Our mission carries forward the legacy of those who have fought tirelessly for our rights as the original peoples of this land—land protected, cherished, and sustained by our ancestors–and where our descendants will continue to thrive. We deeply value the support of our members, allies, and partners who recognize the importance of recent strides in Native representation, advocacy, and resilience. Now is the time to come together to hold firm our communities’ victories and plan for a future where they may continue to flourish.
