Certified Indigenous Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Alter Behavioral Health is seeking a Certified Indigenous Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Alter Behavioral Health operates a series of evidence-based treatment centers for adults struggling with primary mental health, addiction and co-occurring issues. With locations in South Orange County, Alter Management offers individualized, and comprehensive programs that encompass clinical therapy, and experiential practices. Offerings include residential treatment, intensive outpatient programming, and virtual platforms. Alter Behavioral Health nurtures the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of individuals and their families, from a foundation of compassionate care, clinical expertise, and unconditional love. The organization is highly accredited and growing and is expected to open additional facilities. A Certified Indigenous Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CIADC) is a professional who specializes in providing culturally competent counseling and support to individuals within Indigenous communities who are struggling with substance abuse and addiction. This role is critical in addressing the unique challenges and needs of Indigenous populations in the context of substance abuse treatment.

Qualifications: ● A bachelor's or master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology or a related field. ● Completion of a recognized substance abuse counseling program. ● Certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or a similar certification. ● Strong knowledge of Indigenous cultures and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities in the context of addiction. ● Effective communication skills, empathy, and the ability to build trust with clients. ● Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations in the area of addiction counseling and confidentiality.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ● Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine the specific needs and issues of clients, including their substance use history, mental health status, cultural background, and social support systems. ● Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans that consider the cultural, spiritual, and historical factors that may impact a client's addiction and recovery process. ● Cultural Competence: Be well-versed in the culture, traditions, and values of the Indigenous community being served, and integrate these cultural aspects into treatment strategies. ● Education and Prevention: Provide education and prevention programs within Indigenous communities to raise awareness about the risks of substance abuse and addiction. ● Counseling: Offer one-on-one counseling and group therapy sessions, focusing on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, and coping strategies while respecting and incorporating traditional Indigenous healing practices. ● Referrals: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, social services, and community organizations to facilitate referrals for additional support services, such as mental health treatment, housing assistance, or employment resources. ● Crisis Intervention: Respond to crises and emergencies related to addiction, and offer immediate support and intervention to individuals and their families. ● Cultural Healing Practices: Integrate traditional Indigenous healing practices, such as smudging, sweat lodges, or other ceremonies, into the treatment process if culturally appropriate and desired by the client. ● Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with legal and ethical standards. ● Advocacy: Advocate for clients within the legal and healthcare systems, ensuring that they receive fair and equitable treatment and access to necessary resources. ● Continuing Education: Stay current with developments in the field of addiction counseling, attend workshops, and engage in ongoing education to enhance cultural competence and counseling skills. ● Ethical Conduct: Adhere to the ethical guidelines and standards of practice established by relevant certification and licensing bodies. ● All other duties as assigned

$26-$31 hourly
