Job Description

Develops and coordinates grant funded programs for the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. The Grants Accountant provides primary accounting functions for all grant monitoring administration, compliance, and
financial reports of awarded grants through project closeout. Ensures the appropriate use and accurate reporting of all financial transactions on contracts and grants.

Skills & Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Advance Skills using a Financial Accounting system • Must meet grant reporting deadlines as established by the granting agency and Government monthly close. • Proven knowledge of accounting and financial statement • Able to prepare financial reports and calculate reimbursement requests for multiple granting agencies • Strong analytical skills and problem solving • Good communication skills • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments and. • Monthly closing journal entries and accruals bank reconciliation, General ledger analysis. • Assists in establishing, and achieving department goals, and objectives; • Ability to prioritize work flow • Confidentiality required with regard to sensitive material • Candidate must possess excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, a high degree of personal integrity and ability to work under limited supervision.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Bachelors’ degree in accounting, or finance 2) Must be advanced in the use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and financial systems 3) Must have a minimum of 4 years of direct accounting and/or auditing experience 4) Ability and willingness to work overtime when needed 5) Need to have a high level of integrity and responsibility 6) Must possess a current Arizona Driver’s License and ability to meet FMYN insurance standards 7) Must be able to pass random drug test


Duties & Responsibilities


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This is a Senior Accountant position. Essential functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Leadership skills and future ability to promote • Maintain established internal controls and procedures • Knowledge of GAAP and auditing standards • Senior accountant level skills such as month and year end close of the general ledger. • Has experience and can help with preparation of financial statements such as cash flow, income statement and balance sheet. • Superior problem solving and analytical skills and initiative. • Audit experience whether as an auditor or working with them. • Applies accounting techniques and standard practices to the classification and recording of financial transactions • Serves as back up for the Grants and Contracts Manager. • Monitor grant activity, including cost overruns, unallowable expenses and cost sharing. • Review and monitor the Travel Authorization and Expense Reports for both FMYN and IRS compliance. • Reconcile the general ledger accounts on a timely basis. • Enter journals and purchase requisitions. • Works with the Grants and Contracts Manager to ensure accounts payable compliance with the granting agencies. • Assist the Grants and Contracts Manager with analyzing and reconciling financial variances. • Assist in the preparation of the grant schedule including financial workpapers for the A-133 annual audit. • Available for special requests. • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


Salary & Benefits

$68,658.31 to $82,389.97 annually
