- Job Description
The Director of Capacity Building (DCB) is to be responsible for enhancing the capabilities of tribal communities to achieve energy sovereignty. The DCB will have direct engagement with tribal leaders to cultivate the will and resources needed for sustainable energy projects, assessing current capabilities, supporting strategic initiatives, and contribution to the overall success and growth of Indigenized Energy.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, or related fields.
- 7+ years in community engagement, capacity building, or related fields, with a significant focus on working with indigenous or rural communities.
- Ideal candidates will have experience and/or exposure in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication, and strong leadership skills.
- Deep understanding of cultural sensitivities, and proficiency in strategic and execution.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, internet, HRIS systems, and Applicant Tracking Systems.
- Strong customer service, negotiation skills and ability to interact with employees at all levels throughout the company.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement employee engagement and retention strategies.
- Self-starter with excellent time management, multitasking and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic and sense of integrity, trustworthiness and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Creative in brainstorming and proposing new ideas and solutions to existing problems.
- Willing and able to travel occasionally, including overnight travel.
- Enthusiastic team player who understands the dynamic of working in a matrixed organization
- Outgoing with ability to provide excellent customer service to staff and external partners

Leadership Engagement
- Actively engage with tribal leaders to foster interest and commitment towards investing in and achieving energy sovereignty.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key tribal leadership and departments.
Community Awareness
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of tribal leadership, key departments, and their election cycles.
- Monitor and adapt strategies according to changes in tribal leadership and political dynamics.
Build Resolve
- Develop and implement strategies to build confidence, resolve, and momentum within tribal communities for pursuing sustainable energy solutions.
- Facilitate workshops, meetings, and other activities to reinforce the importance and feasibility of energy sovereignty.
Capacity Assessment
- Evaluate the existing conditions and capacities of tribal communities regarding energy management and infrastructure.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for development and tailor support accordingly.
- Maintain a record of how tribes are progressing through the stages of their sacred journey towards energy sovereignty.
Relationship Maintenance
- Maintain strong, supportive relationships with tribes through regular meetings, visits, and hands-on support.
- Ensure continuous communication and collaboration to address ongoing needs and challenges.
Support for Strategic Initiatives
- Work closely with tribal leaders and other department heads to support the planning and implementation of strategic energy projects and programs.
- Facilitate access to necessary resources and expertise to ensure successful project outcomes.
Leadership Reporting
- Report to senior leadership on sensitive issues, developments within tribes, and recommended actions.
- Provide regular updates on progress towards energy sovereignty and strategic initiatives.
Team Development and Management
- Lead and develop the team responsible for direct engagement with tribes.
- Ensure the team is culturally competent, effective, and aligned with tribal goals and values.
