The Role:
Make-A-Wish Arizona is expanding throughout the mosaic of communities within Arizona, primarily within the Northern region, growing its engagement and wishgranting efforts.We recognize that Arizona’s sovereign tribes are a key factor in its mission to grant a wish to each eligible child within the state. This budding position is responsible for increasing volunteer and community engagement while maintaining a high degree of diplomacy and customer service, as well as is responsible for growing wish referrals while ensuring that the complex and delicate rules around qualification for a wish are followed. This person will also be a tribal liaison supporting the various Arizona indigenous communities through education, engagement, and communication, while serving as a connector between state-wide Native governments and communities, medical agencies, community agencies and Make-A-Wish Arizona.
This person is part of a team that is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of a medical outreach and community engagement programs with a goal to increase wish referrals and strengthen relationships while increasing visibility of Make-A-Wish within all underserved communities of Northern Arizona. As an ambassador to the various northern communities, this person must reside in Northern AZ.
Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
The ideal candidate will possess a firm grasp of tribal sovereignty, systems, and the intersection with non-tribal governments, community based organizations and businesses
Have a deep understanding and respect for Native American cultures, traditions, and protocols
Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects on a tight deadline
Detail oriented
Strong organizational skills and the characteristics of a detail and results oriented team player
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Strong work ethic combined with honest and high integrity
Ability to work collaboratively to ensure strong departmental and Chapter structure
Ability to work with a diverse community including and not limited to, ethnicity, gender, age, and physical ability
Ability to perform effectively in times of stress and be flexible and adaptable to situational changes
Ability to maintain confidential information and communicate with sensitivity in challenging circumstances and with organizational constituents
Demonstrated strong time management skills and is an effective problem solver

Ability to facilitate adult-learning sessions.
Occasional stooping, bending, lifting, standing for long periods of time, carrying of materials and boxes weighing less than 50lbs.
Ability to travel to fulfill departmental and organizational duties, including throughout Arizona and the United States, as needed
Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Must have reliable internet services
Bilingual preferred (Native Language(s)/English)
Training/Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Community Relations/Engagement, Non-Profit Management, Social Services, Child Development, Nursing, Child Life Specialist, or other health sciences preferred
Familiarity Microsoft Office Suite and database management software, preferably Salesforce

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Coordinating activities to ensure and enhance service and presence with the specified communities of Northern Arizona that reflect the diversity of our service population, particularly among First Nations
Creating strategic local relationships and partnerships
Identifying and assessing participation in community opportunities to maximize Make-A-Wish Arizona presence
Develops communication strategies to grow and maintain referral and volunteer recruitment sources. Works closely with the community liaisons within the underserved populations to identify training/speaking/engagement opportunities. Update referralcommunity regarding any changes in national policies, guidelines, and resources related to eligibility and medical outreach efforts. Works with Community Engagement Department to communicate upcoming volunteer opportunities, required training and policy updates.
As opportunities arise, travel to outlying Northern Arizona counties including, but not limited to:Navajo, Mojave, Apache, Coconino, Yavapai, and Gila; to support fundraising, outreach, volunteer recruitment, and community events.
Collaborate with internal teams to integrate cultural sensitivity and develops community culture programs and processes that are reflective of that community
Creates and manages local community councils, including solicitation of community stewards.
The Tribal Ambassador will build and seek out partnerships, bridge the lines of communication and serve as the primary contact for tribal leaderships when interacting with Make-A-Wish Arizona.
Facilitate and participate in identified local community and tribal committees, forums, councils, and meetings to strengthen relationships within Arizona communities.
