About Center of Excellence for Regenerative Native Agriculture (CERNA) The Center of Excellence for Regenerative Native Agriculture (CERNA) project aims to provide education, training, and technical assistance to help Native American producers across the United States transition to regenerative agriculture systems. Funded through the USDA’s Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities grant program, CERNA will deliver an intensive cohort-based training curriculum tailored to the needs, values, and practices of Native producers. Local, place-based education focusing on soil health, water management, carbon sequestration potential, biodiversity, and traditional ecological knowledge will equip producers to holistically evaluate their operations and begin implementing regenerative practices. The project will foster peer learning and knowledge sharing opportunities for Native producers through both virtual and in-person training sessions, networks to connect with agricultural thought leaders, and access to emerging ecosystem service marketplaces for climate-smart commodities.
Requirements • Advanced degree in regenerative agriculture, agroecology, soil science or related field • 3+ years experience developing agricultural curriculum and teaching adult learning programs
• Working knowledge of climate smart farming practices including cover cropping, no till, crop rotation, composting etc. • Existing relationships with regenerative agriculture leaders preferred • Passion for participatory, farmer-to-farmer knowledge sharing models • Ability to work collaboratively with Native communities and appreciate cultural contexts • This is a remote/hybrid full-time temporary position headquartered in White Cloud, KS aligned with the 52-month CERNA project period. Competitive compensation and benefits package based on experience and qualifications. Position may have the opportunity to extend past the project period based on job performance.
Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Regenerative Agriculture Specialist to develop CERNA’s core curriculum and training materials and serve as a lead instructor and technical advisor for multiple cohorts of Native producers across the country. This is an impactful opportunity to empower agricultural community change through education. Core Responsibilities • Design and build out CERNA’s regenerative agriculture curriculum, including syllabi, presentations, activities, assessments and learning tools for in-person and virtual delivery • Provide training instruction during 10-day intensive producer workshops held twice annually, utilizing place-based, experiential learning approaches • Develop customized climate smart transition plans for individual producers’ operations and cropping systems • Offer ongoing on-site and remote technical assistance to support adoption of regenerative practices • Track implementation progress and collect climatic, ecosystems services, business viability and yield data
Salary Range: $60K-$79K
